Job summary

Novus is seeking a dedicated Functional Skills Maths or English Teacher to join the team at HMP Manchester. This permanent, full-time role offers 37 hours per week in a secure education environment.

You will deliver engaging lessons, assess learners, and work within a multidisciplinary team to support rehabilitation and learning across a varied cohort. Applicants should hold a teaching qualification with Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy and be prepared to undergo safeguarding checks.

Qualifications

  • Must hold a teaching qualification and, where applicable, a relevant subject specialist qualification
  • Hold at least Level 2 in Literacy and Numeracy
  • DBS check required and safeguarding commitment

We have a great opportunity available to join Novus, our prison education provider at HMP Manchester, working as a Functional Skills Maths or English Teacher. This position is offered on a permanent, full-time basis, working 37hrs per week.

Site Information

HMP Manchester is a Category A and B men’s prison in Manchester, England. Established in 1868 and designed by Alfred Waterhouse, it is known for its iconic ventilation tower and long-standing role as a high-security facility. HMP Manchester serves as a local prison for remanded prisoners awaiting trial and sentencing, as well as those serving long-term sentences and is committed to rehabilitation, offering educational programs, vocational training, and support services aimed at reducing reoffending.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need to:

  • Demonstrate ability to teach Maths or English up to Level 2
  • Achieve performance and quality targets
  • Produce accurate and timely reporting
  • Demonstrate positive team working
  • Have experience of conducting assessments and supporting learning of individuals and groups
  • Have experience of working with groups of learners with a range of abilities.
  • Have experience successful working in an effective multi-disciplinary team
  • Have experience creating stimulating, vibrant environments which are conducive to learning and motivational for learners
  • A good track record achieving of quality targets
  • Hold a teaching qualification and, where applicable, a relevant subject specialist qualification - with a commitment to obtain the outstanding qualification within 12 months
  • Hold at least a Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy
  • 40 days annual leave plus 8 bank holidays
