Job summary

A leading recruitment agency is seeking a highly capable Full Stack Engineer for a central government programme focused on modernising critical navigational systems. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in SOLAS-aligned environments, strong full-stack engineering skills, and familiarity with cloud providers. Full Stack Engineer

Outside IR35

SR2 is supporting a central government programme seeking a highly capable Full Stack Engineer to support the modernisation of critical navigational systems. This role is ideal for an engineer with experience in SOLAS‑aligned environments and a proven background in delivering robust, scalable software across cloud and legacy ecosystems

The Role

You will join a multidisciplinary engineering team responsible for transforming essential maritime safety platforms into modern cloud‑native services. The role requires a blend of strong full‑stack engineering capability, understanding of maritime data standards, and the ability to work effectively within a complex, regulated environment. You’ll be contributing across front‑end, back‑end, APIs and integration layers, ensuring the systems are secure, resilient, and fit for operational use.

Core Requirements
  • Essential :
    • Experience delivering software in a SOLAS environment, such as commercial shipping, maritime authorities, or adjacent regulated sectors.
    • Familiarity with navigational charts (S‑100 preferred; S‑57 minimum).
    • Strong full‑stack engineering background across both front‑end and back‑end systems.
    • Hands‑on experience with a major cloud provider (AWS, Azure or GCP) and exposure to IaC (Terraform, CloudFormation or equivalent).
    • Experience working with large, complex codebases and contributing to legacy‑to‑cloud modernisation initiatives.
    • Proficiency with modern back‑end development (Node.js, Java, .NET or similar) and modern front‑end frameworks.
  • Desirable :
    • Knowledge of S‑101 (ENC) and broader S‑100 product specifications.
    • Experience integrating with chart‑compilation tools, maritime data services, or GIS platforms.
    • Familiarity with Azure DevOps, CI / CD pipelines and automated testing practices.
    • Exposure to geospatial data processing, maritime visualisation tools or workflows.
