Job summary

Met Office in Exeter is recruiting an experienced Frontend Developer for a long-term contract. The role is hybrid with one day per week in the office, based in Exeter, working with product, design and backend teams to deliver responsive applications using Next.js, React and TypeScript.

Qualifications

• Experience with React, Next.js and TypeScript.
• Experience building and integrating with REST or internal APIs.
• Experience in Azure and/or AWS cloud environments.
• Experience in responsive, accessible frontend development.
• Knowledge of UX/UI design principles and user-centred development.
• Experience with automated testing and debugging.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and modern deployment practices.
• Experience working in an Agile software development environment.
• Experience collaborating with product, design and backend teams.
• Strong problem-solving and technical communication skills.
• Desirable PyGeoAPI experience.
• Desirable Jira and Confluence experience.
• Desirable experience delivering digital services in government/public sector.

Responsibilities

• Develop responsive, accessible frontend using Next.js, React and TypeScript.
• Build frontend experiences backed by internal APIs and search indexes.
• Work within a mixed Azure and AWS cloud environment.
• Collaborate with UX/UI, product and technical teams to create intuitive user experiences.
• Participate in code reviews, testing and debugging.
• Maintain and enhance existing applications.
• Troubleshoot technical issues and implement effective solutions.
• Produce clear technical documentation and contribute to defining project requirements.
• Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines.
• Develop and maintain automated testing.
• Work within an Agile delivery environment.
• Apply modern frontend development standards and best practices.
