Mountain Healthcare is advertising a bank vacancy for a registered nurse or paramedic to work as a Forensic Custody Healthcare Professional at Abingdon Custody Suite. The role encompasses assessing, treating and supporting detainees in police custody, including fitness for detention, forensic evidence collection and guidance to custody teams.

Qualifications

• Current NMC registration as a registered general nurse or current HCPC registration as a paramedic.
• Minimum of three years post-qualification experience in an acute or urgent setting (front-line ambulance, A&E, prison, custody or urgent care).
• Enhanced DBS clearance and police vetting.
• Full right to work in the UK and a minimum of three years UK residency before application.
• Full UK driving licence with fewer than six penalty points.

Responsibilities

• Assess, treat and support detainees in police custody.
• Assess fitness for detention, interview, charge and release.
• Manage acute presentations and respond to emergencies.
• Provide clinical advice to custody teams and partner agencies.
• Carry out clinical and capacity assessments.
• Support mental health, substance misuse and safeguarding needs.
• Carry out injury assessment and collect evidential samples.
• Maintain accurate clinical and evidential records.
• Work with police, NHS and partner agencies on detainee care in custody and on release.
• Attend hospital blood procedures under the Road Traffic Act.
• Provide professional statements and attend court when required.
