Job summary

Mountain Healthcare is recruiting nurses and paramedics to assess and treat detainees in police custody. The role operates on a day and night rota, focusing on fitness for detention and court-ready documentation.

Applicants must have 3+ years post-qualification experience in acute or urgent settings and hold NMC or HCPC registration. Forensic training starts in the first year, with enhanced benefits and a pro rata joining bonus.

Qualifications

• 3+ years post-qualification experience in acute or relevant setting (e.g., front-line ambulance, A&E, prison, custody or urgent care).
• Current NMC registration as a Registered General Nurse, or current HCPC registration as a paramedic.
• Full UK driving licence with fewer than six penalty points.
• Enhanced DBS clearance and police vetting.
• Full right to work in the UK and at least three years' UK residency before application.

Responsibilities

• Assess, treat and support detainees in police custody, including fitness for detention, interview, charge and release.
• Manage acute healthcare needs and emergencies.
• Support mental health, substance misuse and safeguarding needs.
• Carry out clinical and capacity assessments.
• Provide advice to custody teams and partner agencies.
• Collect and document forensic evidence, including injury assessment and evidential samples.
• Maintain accurate clinical and evidential records.
• Work with police, NHS and partner agencies on detainee care in custody and on release.
• Attend hospital blood procedures under the Road Traffic Act.
• Provide professional statements and attend court when required.
