Job summary

Mountain Healthcare inside police custody suites seeks a registered nurse or paramedic for a forensic custody healthcare post. The role assesses detainees’ health, supports safeguarding decisions and collects forensic samples with accreditation training provided.

It offers full-time or part-time terms and requires NMC or HCPC registration with at least three years of post-qualification acute experience. Applicants must have a full UK driving licence and be able to work within a multi-agency

Qualifications

• Current NMC registration as a registered general nurse, or current HCPC registration as a paramedic.
• At least three years' post-qualification experience in an acute or relevant setting.

Responsibilities

• Assess fitness for detention, interview, charge and release; include capacity assessments.
• Manage medical emergencies and provide healthcare in custody.
• Support detainees with mental health needs and complex vulnerabilities.
• Collect, preserve and document forensic samples to evidential standards.
• Produce accurate clinical and evidential records, including injury documentation.
• Liaise with police, custody teams and NHS services to support onward care.
• Attend hospital procedures under the Road Traffic Act as required.
• Prepare statements and attend court as an impartial healthcare witness when required.
