Overview

Outstanding Secondary School in Barnet seeks an organised and practical Food Technology graduate or Food Technology specialist to work as a Food Technology Technician, starting in September 2025 on a permanent contract, part-time basis.

Role: Food Technology Technician

Location: London, United Kingdom (Barnet area)

Salary: GBP 18,659 – GBP 24,568 (permanent contract, September 2025, part-time)

Responsibilities
  • Provide technical service to the Food Technology and Design Faculty under the supervision of the Head of Food Technology.
  • Ensure the practical needs of the teaching staff are met in accordance with school schemes of learning.
  • Work cohesively with a team of Food Technology Technicians.
  • Maintain all Food Technology equipment.
  • Stocktake resources to ensure minimum stock levels; maintain stock records and stock books.
  • Keep the Food Technology resource room well organised, accessible and user friendly.
  • Keep subject knowledge up to date and attend relevant training.
  • Support wider school activities (e.g., open days), attend faculty meetings to brief staff on new equipment or practical ideas.
  • Dispose of waste materials appropriately and in line with safety procedures.
  • Remain up to date with health and safety protocols regarding hazardous materials.
  • Organise and store equipment, apparatus and materials; identify equipment needs in consultation with teaching and technician staff and participate in purchasing where required.
  • Maintain and repair Faculty apparatus and equipment; liaise with premises staff as appropriate.
  • Prepare and support practical activities to meet teaching/learning needs.
