Job Overview

We are recruiting a fluvial flood risk modelling officer to join our national flood risk evidence modelling service. The team supports and assures the Environment Agency's Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) programmes to deliver our core ambition of a nation resilient to climate change. Our modelling services provide the evidence base for flood management and inform strategic decision-making, supporting the ambitions of EA2030.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advise and guide flood risk management teams on hydraulic and hydrological modelling.
  • Develop your own data management, hydraulic and hydrological modelling capabilities.
  • Communicate flood risk analysis and results with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Advise on appropriate tools and techniques for hydrological and hydraulic modelling approaches.
  • Demonstrate positive health, safety and wellbeing behaviours.
  • Use your technical skills to support incident management.
The Team

The team is part of the national Digital Data Evidence (DDE) service, within the Flood Risk and Coastal Management Department. We provide hydrology and hydraulic modelling services to help improve our understanding of flood risk, working with partners to deliver expert advice, data and analysis that supports flood management.

  • Understanding of how flood risk evidence supports investment programmes and mapping projects.
  • Skills in flood modelling software (e.g., Flood Estimation Handbook, Flood Modeller, TuFLOW, InfoWorks ICM).
  • Skills in data processing, management and GIS software.
