Job summary

Pathway Academy Zone in Stoke-on-Trent is seeking a confident Teaching Assistant to support young people at our Alternative Provision centre. You will work closely with teaching and pastoral staff to provide practical, individualised support to learners, including 1:1 and small-group work, helping learners stay engaged, and promoting safeguarding and a positive learning environment.

Qualifications

  • A relevant Teaching Assistant qualification would be advantageous, though strong practical experience will also be considered.
  • Experience in Alternative Provision, SEND or SEMH is preferred.
  • Experience in schools or colleges, youth work or mentoring is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting learners on a 1:1 basis and in small groups
  • Assisting tutors during lessons and learning activities
  • Helping learners remain engaged, focused and motivated
  • Supporting young people with SEND, SEMH or behavioural needs
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and maintaining clear professional boundaries
  • Supporting learners to build confidence, independence and resilience
  • Promoting safeguarding, wellbeing and a positive learning environment
  • Monitoring learner progress and escalating concerns where appropriate
  • Building strong professional relationships with learners, colleagues and other professionals
