Job summary

Government Recruitment Service is seeking a Heavy Vehicle Technical Officer in Driffield. You will assess complex heavy vehicle applications and ensure compliance with DVSA standards, providing technical guidance to various stakeholders and processing teams.

The role supports policy development, risk management and continuous improvement in a busy operation, with a strong emphasis on safety and customer-focused service delivery.

Qualifications

• Assess heavy vehicle statutory test applications including first tests and conversions.
• Provide advisory support to frontline staff and external partners on DVSA-related guidance.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional assessment of heavy vehicle statutory test applications for both first test and vehicle conversion, checking reports and supporting documentation, ensuring compliance.
• Undertake assessment of applications of approved vehicles via the ECWVTA teams.
• Provide technical support to non-technical processing teams and act as an advisory service to front line staff, operators, manufacturers, trade organisations, other agencies as well as the public on a variety of subjects including DVSA and related services, responding to written and verbal enquiries in a timely manner.
• Investigate possible solutions to solve issues or mitigate risks.
• Collaborate with the Vehicle Policy Team on new initiatives and developing new requirements and standards, for example where there are regulatory changes or to improve clarity within existing publications.
• Communicate positively and effectively with internal and external customers to ensure a full understanding of their requirements and to ensure a concise accurate response is delivered via technical inbox.
• Provide support to the Heavy Vehicle Processing Manager, representing DVSA at trade events and to carry out ad hoc related tasks.
• Maintain relevant data bases as required.
