Job summary

Government Recruitment Service is seeking a Heavy Vehicle Technical Officer to join the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency’s Vehicle Services leadership team in Basildon. You will assess complex heavy vehicle applications, ensure compliance with DVSA standards, and provide trusted technical advice to operators, manufacturers and front-line staff.

You will respond to inquiries, investigate risk, and help develop new guidance while supporting key performance targets in a busy, customer-focused

Qualifications

• Experience assessing heavy vehicle statutory test applications and first tests.
• Ability to interpret DVSA standards and ECWVTA rules.
• Strong collaboration with policy teams, operators and manufacturers.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional assessment of heavy vehicle statutory test applications for first test and conversions, ensuring compliance.
• Assess applications of approved vehicles via ECWVTA processes.
• Support non-technical processing teams and advise frontline staff, operators, manufacturers and the public.
• Investigate issues and mitigate risks.
• Collaborate with Vehicle Policy Team on new initiatives and standards.
• Communicate clearly with internal and external customers to ensure accurate responses.
• Support Heavy Vehicle Processing Manager at events and perform ad hoc tasks.
• Maintain relevant databases.
