Job summary

Royal Mail Group is recruiting a Workshop Shift Supervisor at West Midlands Workshop. The role leads a vehicle technician team in a 39.5-hour weekly shift, with a rotating pattern and Saturdays on a 1-in-3 cycle.

You will oversee inspections, maintenance and repairs across a range of vehicles and equipment, ensuring safety, quality and efficiency while managing stock and paperwork.

Qualifications

• Experienced leader with ability to communicate technical issues to the team.
• Fully qualified to an advanced level (Level 3 in Light or Heavy vehicle or equivalent).
• Proven Vehicle Technician experience on a wide range of vehicles (LCV/HGV).
• Valid UK manual driving licence (preferably HGV with trailer experience).
• High working standards and pride in completing work effectively.
• Flexible to service demands and able to support the team on shift rota.

Responsibilities

• Lead operations across a shift in line with production planning and control requirements.
• Conduct weekly team meetings and shift huddles; address remedial actions for conduct issues while ensuring technician wellbeing.
• Perform inspections, diagnostics, maintenance and repair on vehicles, trailers and equipment.
• Use personal toolkit for routine maintenance and minor repairs; access specialist tooling in modern workshops.
• Maintain stock control and ensure accurate work orders and vehicle documentation.

We are now recruiting Workshop Shift Supervisors at West Midlands Workshop on a Permanentcontract, with the potential to earn up to £65k

Working Hours: Full time - 39.5 hours per week (excluding meal breaks) (rotating shift pattern; week 1 and 2: 06:00 - 14:30 Monday - Thursday & Friday 06:00 - 14:00, week 3: 13:30 - 22:00 Monday - Thursday & Friday 12:00 - 20:00.

You will be required to work 1 in 3 Saturdays 06:00 - 14:00 (with a weekday day off)

A bit about the role

With a Fleet of over 49,000 vehicles, including traditional fuel and electric vehicles, LCVs and HGVs, maintaining our vehicles is a true team effort. Reporting to the Fleet Workshop Manager, the Shift Supervisor provides a pivotal supporting role to the Workshop management team. Responsible for leading operations across a shift in line with production planning and control requirements, you'll deploy agreed processes and staff resources to ensure the Workshop operates safely and delivers high levels of quality and efficiency.

• You will be first line leadership delivering Weekly Team Meetings, shift huddles and have involvement in the remedial approach to conduct issues whilst ensuring a Technicians' wellbeing following return from sick absence.
• You perform a full range of inspections, diagnostic, maintenance, and repair procedures on a range of vehicles, trailers, and mechanical equipment, when required.
• You use your own personal toolkit to undertake routine maintenance and repair light / heavy goods vehicles.
• You also have access to specialist tooling and shared equipment in our modern, fully equipped workshops.
• You perform effective stock control processes, ensuring accurate and timely completion of work orders and associated vehicle documentation to meet both business and legal requirements.

A bit about you

• Experienced leader: you've managed a team of vehicle technicians with excellent knowledge of H&S and have the ability to communicate technical issues to the team.
• Qualified mechanic: you're fully qualified to an advanced level (Level 3 in Light or Heavy vehicle or equivalent). You've got your own toolkit for standard repairs.
• Varied vehicle experience: Proven Vehicle Technician experience working on a wide range of vehicles, for example LCV / HGV.
• Valid UK driving licence: You hold a full manual UK driving licence, preferably an HGV licence with trailer experience.
• High working standards: you take pride in your work and do what is necessary to make sure the job is done effectively.
• Flexible to service demands: you're able to work on a flexible shift rota. You're always willing to support your team where necessary.
