Job summary

Birmingham City Council is seeking Fleet Officers to join the Vehicle Maintenance Service (VMS) to support one of the country’s largest local authority fleet operations. You will help keep the fleet safe, compliant, and operational, coordinating servicing, hire arrangements, and data management while liaising with internal teams and external providers.

We are looking for candidates with experience in fleet operations or transport, strong IT skills, and a commitment to safety and continuous

Qualifications

• Experience in fleet operations, transport, or logistics, or in a role supporting vehicle compliance, maintenance or hire.
• Strong understanding of vehicle compliance requirements.
• Excellent verbal and written communication including report writing.
• Ability to travel around the City; driving licence is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate records for vehicle tax, MOTs, insurance, and licences.
• Monitor servicing schedules and coordinate maintenance and tyre replacements.
• Assist with vehicle hire arrangements and insurance claims.
• Input and manage fleet data, including fuel usage and mileage.
• Prepare reports to support operational decision-making.
• Liaise with internal teams and external providers to resolve issues and ensure service continuity.
• Contribute to continuous improvement around safety, sustainability, and cost-efficiency.
