Job summary

Birmingham City Council is looking for Fleet Officers to join our Vehicle Maintenance Service (VMS) to support one of the country’s largest local authority fleet operations. This permanent role is 36.5 hours per week, graded at A with a salary of £25,614–£29,071, subject to formal evaluation under the Equal Pay Programme.

You will maintain records for tax, MOTs, insurance and licences, coordinate servicing, input fleet data, and contribute to safety, compliance and cost‑efficiency across the

Qualifications

• Experience in fleet operations, transport, or logistics, or in a role supporting vehicle compliance, maintenance or hire.
• Proficiency in IT systems, including fleet management software and Microsoft Office.
• Ability to maintain records for vehicle tax, MOTs, licensing, insurance and servicing.
• Strong understanding of vehicle compliance requirements.
• Ability to organise and prioritise workloads to meet strict deadlines.
• Excellent verbal and written communication including report writing.

Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate records for vehicle tax, MOTs, insurance, and licences.
• Monitor servicing schedules and coordinate maintenance and tyre replacements.
• Assist with vehicle hire arrangements and insurance claims.
• Input and manage fleet data, including fuel usage and mileage.
• Prepare reports to support operational decision-making.
• Liaise with internal teams and external providers to resolve issues and ensure service continuity.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives around safety, sustainability, and cost-efficiency.
