Job summary

Client is seeking an experienced Service & Maintenance Engineer to cover commercial and industrial sites across Somerset. The role focuses on servicing, preventative maintenance, fault diagnosis, repair and minor quoted works of fire and security systems.

The ideal candidate will have strong technical, fault-finding and customer service skills, with a Full UK driving licence and eligibility for security vetting. A field-based position with on-call duty and progression opportunities.

Qualifications

• At least 2 years' experience servicing and maintaining fire and security systems.
• Experience with Fire Detection, CCTV, Access Control and Intruder Alarm systems.
• Strong knowledge of BS 5839, BS EN 50132, BS EN 50133, BS EN 50131.
• Excellent fault-finding and diagnostic abilities.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance, servicing and reactive repairs on fire and security systems, including Fire Detection, CCTV, Access Control and Intruder Alarms.
• Diagnose system faults and complete effective repairs to minimise downtime for customers.
• Test, inspect and verify system performance in line with relevant British Standards and manufacturer requirements.
• Complete routine testing, inspections and minor system modifications.
• Liaise with customers, explaining findings and providing technical advice as required.
• Prepare and maintain service reports, maintenance records and compliance documentation.
• Coordinate with service coordinators and project managers to manage workloads.
• Maintain site Health & Safety, PPE and RAMS.
• Support trainees and junior engineers when required.
• Participate in an on-call rota.

Service & Maintenance Engineer

About the Role

Our client is looking for an experienced Service & Maintenance Engineer to join their growing team, covering commercial and industrial sites across Somerset.

This is a field-based role focused on the servicing, preventative maintenance, fault diagnosis, repair and minor quoted works of fire and security systems. You will play a key role in ensuring systems remain operational, compliant with relevant British Standards and manufacturer requirements, and continue to meet customer needs throughout their lifecycle.

The ideal candidate will have strong technical and fault-finding skills, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and excellent customer service abilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance, servicing and reactive repairs on fire and security systems, including:
  • Fire Detection
  • CCTV
  • Access Control
  • Intruder Alarms
• Diagnose system faults and complete effective repairs to minimise downtime and disruption for customers.
• Test, inspect and verify system performance in line with relevant British Standards and manufacturer requirements.
• Complete routine system testing, inspections and minor system modifications.
• Liaise directly with customers, explaining findings and providing technical advice where required.
• Carry out remedial works and minor system improvements.
• Complete accurate service reports, maintenance records, certificates and compliance documentation.
• Work closely with service coordinators, project managers and other internal teams to manage and prioritise workloads.
• Maintain full compliance with site Health & Safety requirements, including PPE, RAMS and safe systems of work.
• Maintain tools, test equipment and company vehicles to a high standard.
• Support and mentor trainees and junior engineers when required.
• Participate in an on-call rota.

Skills & Experience

Essential

• At least 2 years' experience servicing and maintaining fire and security systems.
• Experience with Fire Detection, CCTV, Access Control and Intruder Alarm systems.
• Strong knowledge of relevant standards, including:
  • BS 5839
  • BS EN 50132
  • BS EN 50133
  • BS EN 50131
• Excellent fault-finding and diagnostic abilities.
• Good understanding of networking and IP-based systems.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to work effectively with customers, colleagues and other trades.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Ability to successfully obtain Full Security Vetting (NPPV2 Full).

Desirable

• Industry-recognised fire and security qualifications, such as FIA units.
• Manufacturer-specific training and experience.
• Experience working with a range of manufacturers' equipment, including:
  • Advanced
  • Hikvision
  • Paxton
  • Texecom
  • Galaxy
  • Orisec
• IPAF and/or PASMA certification.
