Job summary

Verelogic is seeking an experienced Service & Maintenance Engineer to service and maintain fire and security systems across commercial and industrial sites in Somerset. You will diagnose faults, perform preventative maintenance and manage minor quoted works to keep systems compliant and operational.

The role requires strong fault-finding, customer service and problem‑solving skills, with a focus on safety, quality, and timely responses in a field-based environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years’ experience servicing and maintaining fire and security systems.
• Experience with Fire Detection, CCTV, Access Control and Intruder Alarm systems.
• Knowledge of BS 5839, BS EN 50132, BS EN 50133 and BS EN 50131.
• Excellent fault-finding and diagnostic abilities.
• Good understanding of networking and IP-based systems.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Ability to obtain Full Security Vetting (NPPV2 Full).

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance, servicing and reactive repairs on fire and security systems, including Fire Detection, CCTV, Access Control and Intruder Alarms.
• Diagnose system faults and complete effective repairs to minimise downtime for customers.
• Test, inspect and verify system performance in line with British Standards and manufacturer requirements.
• Complete routine system testing, inspections and minor modifications.
• Liaise directly with customers, explaining findings and providing technical advice.
• Carry out remedial works and minor system improvements.
• Complete accurate service reports, maintenance records and compliance documentation.
• Work closely with service coordinators, project managers and other internal teams to manage workloads.
• Maintain full compliance with site Health & Safety requirements, including PPE and RAMS.
• Maintain tools, test equipment and company vehicles.
• Support and mentor trainees and junior engineers when required.
• Participate in an on-call rota.

About the Role

Our client is looking for an experienced Service & Maintenance Engineer to join their growing team, covering commercial and industrial sites across Somerset.

This is a field-based role focused on the servicing, preventative maintenance, fault diagnosis, repair and minor quoted works of fire and security systems. You will play a key role in ensuring systems remain operational, compliant with relevant British Standards and manufacturer requirements, and continue to meet customer needs throughout their lifecycle.

The ideal candidate will have strong technical and fault-finding skills, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and excellent customer service abilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance, servicing and reactive repairs on fire and security systems, including:

Skills & Experience

Essential

• At least 2 years' experience servicing and maintaining fire and security systems.
• Experience with Fire Detection, CCTV, Access Control and Intruder Alarm systems.
• Strong knowledge of relevant standards, including:
  • BS 5839
  • BS EN 50132
  • BS EN 50133
  • BS EN 50131
• Excellent fault-finding and diagnostic abilities.
• Good understanding of networking and IP-based systems.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to work effectively with customers, colleagues and other trades.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Ability to successfully obtain Full Security Vetting (NPPV2 Full).

Desirable

• Industry-recognised fire and security qualifications, such as FIA units.
• Manufacturer-specific training and experience.
• Experience working with a range of manufacturers' equipment, including:
  • Advanced
  • Hikvision
  • Paxton
  • Texecom
  • Galaxy
  • Orisec
• IPAF and/or PASMA certification.
