Job summary

You will be a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, blending strong financial control with commercial insight to support performance and strategic delivery.

Responsibilities include leading the finance team, delivering management accounts, year-end reporting, audit, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow and KPI-based insights for non-finance

On an exclusive basis, greenwellgleeson are recruiting for a Financial Controller to work with to lead the finance function of an established SME manufacturing business in Telford.

As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will combine strong financial control with commercial insight, supporting the business in improving performance and delivering its strategic

objectives.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the finance team, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
• Oversee monthly management accounts, year-end statutory reporting, audit and regulatory compliance.
• Partner with the SLT and Board, providing financial insight to support commercial and strategic decision-making.
• Lead budgeting, rolling forecasts, cash flow management and financial planning.
• Translate operational performance into meaningful financial KPIs, targets and forecasts.
• Maintain strong financial controls, balance sheet integrity and compliance with HMRC and statutory requirements.
• Identify opportunities to improve profitability, working capital and operational performance.
• Drive improvements across finance systems, reporting, processes and controls.
• Champion the effective use of Sage, Excel and other digital tools to improve efficiency.
• Lead, motivate and develop a small finance team, creating a culture of continuous improvement.

About You

• Strong SME finance experience, ideally within manufacturing or a similar operational environment.
• Commercially minded and comfortable operating at both strategic and hands‑on level.
• Strong budgeting, forecasting, cash flow and financial modelling experience.
• Able to translate financial information into clear commercial insight for non‑finance stakeholders.
• Advanced Excel skills and good accounting systems knowledge; Sage experience advantageous.
• Proactive and improvement focused, with a strong analytical and data‑driven approach.
• Excellent communication, leadership and stakeholder management skills.
• High levels of integrity, attention to detail and commitment to delivering results.
