SF Recruitment is working on an exclusive basis with a superb business in Leicester seeking to recruit a Financial Controller for a full-time, permanent position. The Financial Controller will report to an excellent, supportive Finance Director and oversee a small team of five. Our client is a PE-backed retail business based in Leicester. The role involves leading and developing a high-performing finance function as part of the management team.

Main Responsibilities:

1. Review management accounts, own consolidation, and oversee monthly reporting outputs.
2. Assist in business growth through acquisition processes, including due diligence and acquisition accounting.
3. Enhance profitability by conducting analysis and providing insights to operations and retail management for improvements.
4. Manage month-end and year-end finance processes, ensuring deadlines are met.
5. Own the consolidated P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow forecasting processes.
6. Prepare and review monthly financial reports with analysis and commentary for the FD, other Directors, and PE stakeholders.
7. Ensure compliance with key accountancy standards (FRS102), tax (VAT, Corporation, Income Tax), and legal requirements.
8. Challenge processes and assumptions independently, focusing on work practices and key business processes.
9. Review capital expenditure requests and monitor actual spend against budgets.
10. Develop analytics and KPIs to monitor financial risks and support financial stability.
11. Deliver cash flow forecasts to optimize cash management and funding.
12. Enhance working capital by improving cash recoveries and managing outflows.
13. Lead the team to ensure compliance with external audits.
14. Manage discussions with external parties such as auditors, bankers, solicitors, and HMRC.

The ideal candidate will be a qualified professional with experience in a similar role. Experience in retail is advantageous but not essential. The role requires managing, developing, and coaching a small team, with excellent communication skills. The position offers hybrid working (2 days in, 3 days out), with fully office-based options.
