A brand new role! We are seeking an ambitious, detail-oriented and experienced Finance Assistant to support our finance operations. The ideal candidate will bring proven expertise in financial administration and reporting, with the ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines. This role is pivotal in ensuring the smooth running of day-to-day financial processes and maintaining financial accuracy across the organisation.

Location: Birmingham - Hybrid

Who are we? Stern Energy operates ground mounted photovoltaic systems for over 769MW in the UK. We are among the largest operators in Europe with activities in 5 Countries and over 2.8GW under management. We are specialised in proposing and executing revamping and repowering projects to enhance the performance of the assets we operate.

We have a dedicated internal team of specifically qualified, multi-disciplined engineers boasting significant expertise, all of whom are solution providers.

Main responsibilities

  • Confirm comprehensiveness of accounts payable and receivable transactions with accuracy and timeliness
  • Assist in monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial closings by completing of internal financial checks
  • Payroll admin support
  • Ensure bank reconciliations completeness and maintain general ledger journals timely manner
  • Assist in preparing financial reports and statements for internal and external stakeholders
  • Reconcile intercompany accounts and liaise with group subsidiaries to resolve any discrepancies.
  • Maintain financial records and documentation in compliance with internal coding procedures and external regulatory requirements
  • Support the finance department and resolve general queries of the internal team
  • Contribute to stock process improvement and efficiency in inventory operations

This role will report directly to Finance Manager.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar finance or admin role
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g, Xero) and Microsoft Excel
  • Solid understanding of basic bookkeeping and accounting principles - Essential
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and confidentiality
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills
  • Excellent communication skills and a proactive mindset
  • A degree or diploma in Finance, Accounting, or related field is preferred
