Job summary

The Accountancy Recruiters Limited is seeking an organised Accounts Assistant to support a busy finance team in a family-run soft fruit business in the UK. The role focuses on maintaining financial records in Xero across purchase and sales ledgers, banking and general bookkeeping for multiple entities.

You will process invoices, manage payments, VAT returns and year-end accounts while ensuring accuracy and timely reporting in a high-volume environment.

Qualifications

• Five years’ experience in a bookkeeping or finance role.
• Strong knowledge of double-entry bookkeeping and accounting principles.
• Experience with reconciliations, VAT returns and multi-entity accounts.
• Confident using Xero, including bank feeds and digital transactions.
• Good Excel skills, including formulas and lookups.
• Excellent accuracy, organisation and attention to detail.
• Ability to prioritise deadlines and work independently.
• Understanding of Making Tax Digital.
• AAT qualification or progress towards accounting qualification.
• Experience in agriculture, horticulture or seasonal businesses.

Responsibilities

• Process supplier invoices and maintain the purchase ledger.
• Prepare weekly payment runs and reconcile supplier statements.
• Raise customer invoices and credit notes.
• Record incoming payments and carry out credit control.
• Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards and general ledger records.
• Process accounts for separate company entities.
• Assist with VAT returns, financial reports and year-end accounts.
• Support audits, external accountants and general finance administration.
• Follow internal processes to maintain accurate financial records.
