Job summary

Transaction Recruitment Ltd. in Hereford is seeking an Assistant Accountant to own day-to-day accounting across several group companies. You will manage month-end processes, postings, reconciliations and reporting, ensuring accuracy and timeliness as the business grows.

The role offers a salary of £34,000–£38,000 and scope for flexible hours and some home working for the right candidate within a fast-moving, entrepreneurial logistics group.

Qualifications

• At least two years' experience in a finance role.
• AAT Level 2 or equivalent qualification.
• Solid grounding in double-entry bookkeeping, ledgers and basic costing.
• Experience with profit and loss and balance sheet accounting.
• Strong Excel skills and confidence using finance systems.
• Organised and self-motivated with good detail.
• Team player with clear communication.
• Experience with Xero or SAP, CIS, VAT and stock accounting is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Prepare month-end balance sheet reconciliations including accruals, prepayments, deferred income and stock.
• Code supplier invoices and check VAT treatment.
• Reconcile supplier statements across group companies.
• Manage day-to-day transactional workload across the group.
• Produce customer invoices from sales system reports.
• Manage finance inboxes and respond to queries promptly.
• Reconcile bank accounts, intercompany balances and codes.
• Review VAT returns ahead of submission.
• Support production of monthly management accounts and reporting.
• Run monthly subcontractor timesheets and invoicing.
• Pull together supplier payment runs twice a month.
• Oversee company credit cards and expense claims.
• Handle queries from customers, suppliers, colleagues.
• Identify process improvements in the finance function.
• Support Group Finance Manager with ad hoc tasks.
