Job summary

SER Limited in Wakefield is seeking an experienced Service Engineer to install, commission, maintain and repair industrial food-processing machinery at customer sites.

You will diagnose mechanical and electrical faults, read drawings and schematics, travel within the territory and provide on-site training and support to customers.

Qualifications

• Field Service/maintenance experience on industrial machinery.
• Strong fault-finding in mechanical and electrical systems.
• Ability to read technical drawings and schematics.
• Willingness to travel and work independently.

Responsibilities

• Install, commission, service and maintain machinery at customer sites.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and control faults.
• Carry out planned preventative maintenance and equipment upgrades.
• Test machinery after installation or repair to ensure safety and specs.
• Explain issues and repair options to customers clearly.
• Complete service reports and time records and parts usage.
• Identify recurring faults and escalate to engineering.
• Provide customer guidance and training on safe operation and maintenance.
• Travel to customer sites within territory; occasional overnight stays and out-of-hours work.

Job description

Are you an experienced Service Engineer with strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills who enjoys working directly with customers? I am working with a specialist manufacturer of industrial food-processing machinery, supplying engineered equipment to food manufacturers. They are looking for a hands-on Service Engineer to install, commission, maintain and repair machinery at customer sites, helping customers maximise equipment performance and minimise production downtime.

Service Engineer

Location – Wakefield

Salary: £50,000 - £60,000

Benefits: 9% employer pension contribution, life assurance, private healthcare, income protection, and overtime at 1.5 times the basic hourly rate Monday to Saturday and double time on Sundays.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Install, commission, inspect, service and maintain industrial food-processing machinery at customer sites.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and control-related faults.
• Carry out planned preventative maintenance, breakdown repairs, equipment upgrades and adjustments.
• Test machinery following installation or repair to ensure it operates safely and meets the required specifications.
• Communicate technical issues, repair options and maintenance recommendations clearly to customers.
• Complete service reports, time records, parts usage and follow-up recommendations accurately.
• Identify recurring faults and escal… complex technical issues to engineering and product specialists.
• Provide customer guidance and training on the safe operation and routine maintenance of equipment.
• Travel to customer sites across the assigned territory, including occasional overnight stays and out-of-hours work where required.

Essential

• Previous experience as a Field Service Engineer, Maintenance Engineer or Service Technician working on industrial machinery.
• Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, electrical schematics and equipment manuals.
• Confident practical problem-solving skills and an understanding of safe working practices.
• Good communication skills and the ability to provide professional customer service.
• Organised approach to completing service reports and maintaining accurate records.
• Willingness to travel and work independently at customer sites.

Desirable

• Experience working with food-processing, meat-processing, packaging or automated production machinery.
• Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, motors, drives, sensors or PLC fault-finding.
• Experience in machinery installation, commissioning, preventative maintenance and customer training.
• Relevant engineering qualification, apprenticeship or equivalent hands‑on experience.
