Job summary

SER Limited is seeking a Field Service Engineer to install, service and repair a range of premium food processing machinery across the UK. The role requires electrical and mechanical troubleshooting, PLC/HMI work, and extensive driving with stays away from home.

The position offers substantial overtime and a generous package, including a company vehicle and strong training within a multinational HQ network.

Qualifications

• Recognised apprenticeship or equivalent in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering.
• HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering (preferred).
• Solid experience in FMCG or food/packaging machinery environments.
• Knowledge of PLC systems (basic fault finding).
• Willingness to travel extensively across the UK and stay away during the week.

Responsibilities

• Installation, service, repair, and commissioning of food processing machinery.
• Electrical fault finding from drawings and schematics.
• Diagnosing faults on PLCs, HMIs, and 3-phase systems up to 415V.
• Running and terminating Ethernet cables and network connections.
• Mechanical work on bearings, shafts, pulleys, conveyors, hydraulics and pneumatics.
• Complete preventive maintenance to minimise downtime.

The Role – Field Service Engineer

As a Field Service Engineer, you will be a key technical expert supporting customers nationwide. You will be responsible for:

• Installation, service, repair, and commissioning of a wide range of food processing machinery


• Electrical fault finding, including interpreting and working from electrical drawings


• Diagnosing and repairing faults on PLCs, HMIs, and 3-phase (up to 415V) systems


• Running and terminating Ethernet cables and network connections


• Mechanical work on bearings, shafts, pulleys, chains, conveyors, pneumatics, and hydraulics


• Completing preventive maintenance schedules to minimise downtime for customers


• Working away from home up to 4 nights per week, covering sites across the UK


• Visiting a variety of customer environments include fisheries, poultry farms, and meat processing plants

This is a hands-on, varied role that requires a self-sufficient, customer-focused engineer who enjoys problem solving and working with complex machinery.

Qualifications & Experience

The ideal candidate will have:

• Recognised apprenticeship or equivalent in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering


• HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering (preferred)


• Solid experience within FMCG, ideally in food or packaging machinery environments


• Knowledge of PLC systems (basic fault finding and I/O diagnostics)


• Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems (pneumatics, hydraulics, conveyors, motors, drives)


• Willingness to travel extensively across the UK and stay away during the week
