Job summary

National Grid is seeking a hands-on Mechanical Fitter to maintain, repair and overhaul equipment in substations, predominantly outdoors and at height. You will perform a range of maintenance tasks, install refurbished equipment and support planned maintenance alongside occasional site stays, with paid overtime.

The role offers industry-leading training at the Eakring Training Centre and requires a recognised mechanical apprenticeship, driving licence, and readiness to travel to sites within a

Qualifications

• Apprenticeship in Mechanical engineering or NVQ/Level 3 Mechanical engineering with fitting experience.
• Strong mechanical maintenance, overhaul, or installation experience.
• Experience stripping, rebuilding and repairing plant and equipment.
• Confidence using hand tools, power tools, precision measuring equipment and torque tools.
• Proactive fault finding and problem solving.
• Commitment to safe working practices and able to work at height.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Confident using a computer and iPad.
• Live within approximately 40 minutes travel to Marston Vale, MK45 2JJ.

Responsibilities

• Stripping, inspecting and rebuilding mechanical components.
• Diagnosing faults and carrying out repairs.
• Replacing worn and ageing components including bearings, seals and moving parts.
• Installing new or refurbished equipment.
• Supporting planned maintenance and emergency breakdown response.
• Performing routine inspections and condition monitoring.
