Job summary

Wessex Water is seeking a Sewage Misuse Prevention Operative to protect watercourses by inspecting outfalls and sewers, identifying misconnections and recording results. You will work to prevent pollution, investigate incidents, and coordinate with property owners to correct issues.

You will collaborate with teams to ensure safety and efficiency, while maintaining strong public liaison and problem-solving skills in outdoor field work.

Qualifications

• Confident, self-motivated team player with public liaison skills.
• Must understand sewerage networks and drainage.
• Good IT knowledge including Excel and Teams.
• GCSEs English and Maths at grade C/5 or higher.
• Able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Willingness to work around sewage with full PPE provided.

Responsibilities

• Inspect surface water outfalls and sewers to identify misconnected drainage and record findings.
• Prevent streams and watercourses from pollution; follow up private misconnections and correct them.
• Investigate incidents and liaise with third parties for pollution investigations.
• Advise property owners and produce forms to correct misconnections.
• Work with colleagues to ensure health and safety for all stakeholders.
