Job description
Overview

As a Field Technician Apprentice, you'll have opportunities to work on and with the very latest technology, such as our superfast broadband, dazzling TV and entertainment services. By the end of the apprenticeship scheme, you will have mastered the ins and outs of installing and fixing our phone, TV and broadband products, including:

Responsibilities
  • Running & installing cables across different sites
  • Adjusting signal levels and connections
  • Configuring advanced equipment
  • Working at heights to install and update equipment on poles
  • Working outdoors in all weather conditions – comfortable with physical, hands‑on work in changing environments
  • Using a full driver’s licence to reach customers across the region, driving one of our vans, and providing friendly, knowledgeable service
  • Encouraging referrals and earning a £50 bonus for every new customer
  • Carrying out a risk assessment before starting work activities and following method statements
  • Identifying the structure and composition of telecom network cables
  • Interpreting telecom network plans to identify plant or location
  • Working on and in various connection points in the telecoms network
  • Operating safely and following correct procedures when entering and working in the telecoms network in various environments, including overhead and underground
  • Selecting and using the appropriate equipment on a telecom network
  • Installing and testing components of the telecom network
  • Fault‑finding and problem‑solving on the telecom network
  • Maintaining safety standards while working towards task objectives
  • Using personal protective equipment safely and appropriately
  • Communicating with third parties accurately and in a timely manner to deliver the best possible experience
  • Identifying and taking appropriate actions when working around other utility services
  • Working both individually and as part of a team to achieve defined goals

Training & Hours

This Level 2 Telecoms Field Operative apprenticeship combines on‑the‑job learning and academic study. You will spend approximately 20% of your working hours completing learning with one of our training providers. The programme is fully funded by us and we will support you from day one.

Hours: you will work an average of 37.5 hours per week on a rolling schedule, with shifts between 8 am and 8 pm. After training is complete you will move to a 4‑days‑out‑of‑7 working week.
