Job summary

Deverell Smith Recruitment Ltd is seeking a Temporary Facilities Manager in Croydon with immediate availability to support a premium residential community. The role involves keeping the building safe, compliant and running smoothly across all facilities, with a focus on maintenance, compliance, and stakeholder liaison.

You will oversee contractor activity, manage maintenance schedules, and report on performance.

Qualifications

• Experience maintaining buildings in premium residential blocks or hotels.
• Experience supervising contractors and coordinating with teams.
• Qualification in electrical/mechanical engineering or plumbing, or equivalent trade background.
• Solid understanding of UK Health & Safety legislation and building compliance.
• Strong communication skills and customer-focused approach.
• Proficient with MS Office tools (Word/Excel/Outlook).
• Flexibility to work on-call or overtime when needed.

Responsibilities

• Support Community Manager to keep building safe and compliant.
• Oversee maintenance across buildings, grounds, and common areas.
• Assign and oversee resident work orders and repairs.
• Manage PPM schedules with contractors.
• Ensure RAMS, permits to work, PAT testing, and H&S records are up to date.
• Supervise contractors and check on-site work quality.
• Maintain O&M manuals, H&S files, and statutory records.
• Monitor budgets, POs, invoices, and reporting to Estates team.
• Build relationships with residents, council, and fire services.
• Provide out-of-hours emergency cover as needed.

Temporary Facilities Manager | Croydon | ASAP start until December

I'm working with a client who is looking for an experienced Facilities Manager to join their premium residential community in Croydon on a temporary basis. This is an immediate requirement, so if you're available now and ready to hit the ground running, I'd love to hear from you.

The role

You'll support the Community Manager in keeping the building safe, compliant and running well, overseeing technical services and maintenance across the buildings, grounds, amenities and common areas. Day to day, you will:

• Assign and oversee resident work orders and reactive repairs, making sure they're completed on time and to standard
• Manage planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedules with the approved contractor network
• Oversee statutory compliance, including risk assessments, RAMS, permits to work, PAT testing and H&S records
• Supervise contractors and suppliers, and check the quality of work carried out on site
• Keep Operations & Maintenance manuals, the H&S file and statutory records up to date
• Manage purchase orders, invoices and budget tracking alongside the Community Manager
• Report monthly to the Estates Management team on PPM, lifecycle replacement and contractor performance
• Build good relationships with residents and external stakeholders such as the local council and fire services
• Provide out-of-hours emergency cover on an on-call basis

What my client is looking for

• Building maintenance experience in a corporate residential setting (premium or private residential blocks, hotels or similar)
• Experience supervising contractors and working with teams to maintain high-end residential buildings
• A qualification in electrical/mechanical engineering or plumbing (NVQ, City & Guilds or equivalent), or a trade apprenticeship background
• A solid understanding of UK Health & Safety legislation and building compliance, and experience managing risk assessments and PPM systems
• Strong communication skills and a customer-focused approach
• Proficiency in Word, Excel and Outlook
• Flexibility to work on-call or overtime when needed

Nice to have:

IOSH qualification, knowledge of SFG20 maintenance job plans, and a degree in a related discipline.
