Job summary

Magnet is seeking a Facilities Lead in Darlington with national travel to keep sites safe, compliant, and well-maintained. You will coordinate contractors, manage facilities works, and drive continuous improvement across locations.

You will need Advanced Excel, strong numerical and administrative skills, excellent communication, and a hands-on approach. Some travel across the UK is expected, reporting to the National Facilities Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Manage contractors and ensure safe, compliant, high-quality works.
  • Support HSE compliance, monitor reactive/planned works, and control costs.
  • Review spend with line manager and drive cost savings initiatives.
  • Coordinate meetings with Health & Safety teams for compliance and improvement.
  • Produce monthly reports on maintenance and compliance activities.
  • Maintain facilities management systems and support utility-related tasks.
  • Raise and administer purchase orders; maintain accurate records.
  • Travel to sites to support activities and wider team initiatives.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance service delivery.

Role: Facilities Lead
Reports to: National Facilities Manager
Location: Darlington (with national travel where necessary)
Hours: 39
Salary: £35000-37000 per year (Depending on experience)

We're looking for a Facilities Lead to join our team and play a key role in ensuring our sites remain safe, compliant, efficient, and well-maintained. You'll be responsible for coordinating contractors, managing facilities works, supporting compliance activities, and driving continuous improvement across our locations.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys building strong relationships, solving problems, and taking ownership of facilities operations while delivering excellent service to our colleagues and stakeholders.

What you'll be doing

As our Facilities Lead, you'll support the day-to-day management of facilities and contractor activities across our sites, ensuring all work is completed safely, compliantly, on time, and to a high standard.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing contractors and ensuring works are completed safely, efficiently, and to agreed standards
  • Supporting compliance with Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) legislation and KPI requirements
  • Monitoring reactive, planned, compliance and remedial works across the business
  • Reviewing costs and spend with the line manager to ensure value for money
  • Identifying opportunities for cost savings and supporting departmental efficiency initiativesResponding calmly and effectively to reactive facilities issues and operational challenges
  • Coordinating regular meetings with Health & Safety teams to drive contractor compliance and continuous improvement
  • Producing monthly reports on reactive maintenance and compliance activities for key stakeholders
  • Managing and improving facilities management systems for reactive and compliance works
  • Supporting utility-related activity across the business, including meters, tracing, and finance-related tasks
  • Raising, monitoring and administering purchase orders and invoices
  • Maintaining accurate spreadsheets, records and reporting data
  • Travelling to sites to support projects, facilities activities and wider team initiatives
  • Identifying and implementing process improvements that enhance service delivery and efficiency
Who we're looking for

We're keen to hear from candidates who are highly organised, detail-focused and confident working with multiple stakeholders.

You'll ideally have:

  • Advanced Excel skills and the ability to analyse, monitor and report on data
  • Strong numerical and administrative capabilities
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Outstanding attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards
  • Experience using SAP (desirable but not essential)
  • The ability to build positive relationships with colleagues, contractors and stakeholders at all levels
  • A positive, flexible, hands‑on approach to problem solving
  • Strong customer service skills and a collaborative team mindset
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment
  • A willingness to travel to support activities across multiple sites

Please note - this role requires travelling to sites across the UK, therefore a full UK Driving Licence and access to a car is essential.
