Job summary

Magnet, the UK’s leading kitchen specialist, seeks a Senior Management Accountant to join our Finance team in Leeds/Darlington with hybrid working 2–3 days in the office. You’ll manage a small team, lead month-end close for Supply Chain and central units, and deliver timely UK management accounts.

You’ll strengthen financial controls, support compliance, and drive process improvements while partnering with the IT Director on spend and budget alignment.

Responsibilities

• Oversee fixed assets, accruals, prepayments, staff costs, and VAT analysis.
• Manage statutory reporting and external audit/tax requirements.
• Complete VAT, PSA and other tax filings to ensure compliance.
• Partner with IT Director to monitor spend and budgeting.
• Review balance sheet reconciliations and resolve outstanding queries.
• Support process improvements and assist Head of Reporting with ad hoc projects.

Role: Senior Management Accountant

Reports to: Head of Reporting

Location: Based in the Leeds and Darlington office, hybrid working (2/3 days in the office)

Hours: 39 hours per week

We’re seeking a Senior Management Accountant to join our Finance team and play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality financial reporting. You’ll manage a small team, produce timely and accurate management accounts, ensuring information is aligned with internal deadlines and organisational standards. Alongside this, you’ll strengthen financial controls, safeguard data integrity, support compliance, and contribute to improving the efficiency and effectiveness of our financial processes.

What you’ll be doing:

• Manage a small team and oversee daily operations

• Lead month-end close activities for Supply Chain and central business units, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.

• Prepare and consolidate UK management accounts, including journals, reconciliations, and reporting packs.

• Oversee key accounting areas such as fixed assets, accruals, prepayments, staff costs, property costs, IT costs, FX, and VAT analysis.

• Manage annual statutory reporting and external audit/tax requirements.

• Review and complete ONS returns, VAT, PSA, and other tax filings to ensure compliance.

• Partner with the IT Director to monitor and control spend, ensuring costs are accurately processed and aligned to budget.

• Review balance sheet reconciliations and drive timely resolution of outstanding queries and issues.

• Support process improvement initiatives, strengthen team procedures, and assist the Head of Reporting with ad hoc projects.

Who we’re looking for:

• Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA)

• Proven management experience

• Strong financial awareness with excellent attention to detail

• Proven ability to work effectively under strict deadlines

• Strong communication skills, able to engage with stakeholders at all levels internally and externally

• Advanced proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint; knowledge of SAP is advantageous

• Flexible and adaptable, with the ability to manage changing priorities and support continuous process improvements

• Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently
