Job summary

Reed Further Education in Rotherham is looking for a proactive Fabrication & Welding Technician to join the Engineering department. This hands-on role supports tutors and students, ensuring workshops are safe, well-equipped and fully operational to support high-quality teaching and learning.

The role requires preparing equipment, maintaining safety standards, and assisting with practical sessions while managing tools, stock and consumables.

Qualifications

• Proven industry experience within Fabrication and Welding.
• Good working knowledge of health and safety practices in workshops.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to support students and staff.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Willingness to work towards English and Maths Level 2 if not already held.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and set up equipment, tools and materials for practical lessons and assessments.
• Support staff and students during workshop activities while maintaining safety standards.
• Assist with construction and preparation of engineering apparatus and learning materials.
• Manage issue and return of tools, equipment and consumables.
• Carry out routine maintenance on workshop machinery and equipment.
• Ensure workshops remain clean, organised and compliant with health and safety regulations.
• Monitor stock levels and reorder consumables as required.
• Maintain accurate stock and asset records.
• Support security of workshops, equipment and storage areas.
• Collaborate with colleagues across Engineering and other curriculum areas.
• Attend team meetings and contribute to department improvements.
