Job summary

Plaistow Hill Primary and Nursery School in Plymouth is seeking a caring SEND Teaching Assistant to join our friendly, supportive team. The role is predominately one-to-one in EYFS, helping a child to develop and feel secure in their learning.

Working with the SENCo and teachers, you will deliver planned activities, monitor progress, support behaviour and safeguarding, and contribute to an inclusive, stimulating learning environment that enables all pupils to thrive.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 or equivalent
• GCSE English and Maths (minimum C)
• Recent experience in a primary school and across KS1/KS2
• Experience and passion for supporting children with SEND
• Experience working with children with SEMH needs
• Ability to build positive relationships and encourage appropriate behaviour
• Good safeguarding and pastoral understanding
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Positive, enthusiastic approach and initiative

Responsibilities

• Predominantly 1:1 work with a child in EYFS and small groups
• Deliver planned teaching/learning activities and adapt as required
• Supervise and assist pupils in activities
• Deliver intervention programmes as needed
• Create and develop resources under guidance of SENDCO
• Assist with school displays
• Develop strategies to support learning goals
• Establish positive relationships with parents and attend meetings where appropriate
• Monitor and record pupil attainment and progress
• Provide feedback to pupils
• Support learning and pastoral needs for children with additional needs
• Promote good behaviour and inclusion
• Manage conflicts in line with school policy
• Provide administrative support to the teacher
• Ensure equipment/resources are available for lessons
• Accompany staff on out-of-class activities
