Job summary

Plaistow Hill Primary School in Plymouth is seeking a caring SEND Teaching Assistant to work predominantly 1:1 with a child in EYFS and with small groups. You will support planned teaching and learning activities, deliver intervention programmes, and help create resources under the SENCO and professional guidance.

You will build positive relationships with pupils, families, and the school team, contributing to an inclusive, supportive learning environment where every child can thrive.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification.
• GCSE English and Maths (C or equivalent).
• Experience working in a primary school and across KS1 and/or KS2.
• Experience and passion for supporting children with SEND.
• Experience working with children with SEMH needs.
• Ability to build positive relationships and encourage behaviour.
• Good safeguarding and pastoral understanding.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Predominantly 1:1 support with a child in EYFS and small groups.
• Deliver planned teaching and learning activities and adapt as required.
• Supervise and assist pupils in activities set by teachers.
• Deliver intervention programmes where necessary.
• Create and develop resources under direction of SENDCO and professionals.
• Assist with school displays celebrating pupils’ work.
• Develop strategies with guidance to support learning goals.
• Establish positive relationships with parents/carers and participate in meetings.
• Monitor and record pupils’ attainment and report progress to teachers.
• Provide feedback to pupils under teacher guidance.
• Support learning and pastoral needs of children with additional needs.
• Promote good behaviour and inclusion, and deal with conflicts per policy.
• Provide administrative support to the teacher.
• Ensure equipment/resources meet lesson objectives.
• Accompany staff and pupils on out-of-school activities.
