The EYFS Class Teacher is responsible for the education, care, welfare and development of children within the Early Years Foundation Stage, ensuring that all children experience a safe, stimulating, nurturing and inclusive learning environment where they can flourish academically, socially, emotionally, physically and spiritually. - Provide a balance of adult-led and child-initiated learning experiences.
- Promote high expectations for all children whilst recognising individual starting points and developmental needs.
- Support the development of communication and language, personal, social and emotional development, physical development, literacy and mathematics.
- Foster children's love of learning through play-based and experiential learning approaches.
- Develop children's understanding of routines, behaviour expectations and positive relationships.
- Use observations and assessment information to plan next steps and adapt provision accordingly.
- Ensure that continuous provision both indoors and outdoors supports learning across all areas of development.
Child Development and Assessment
- Develop a thorough understanding of child development from age two to five.
- Observe, assess and track children's progress using a range of formative assessment strategies.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of children's learning and development.
- Contribute to statutory assessment requirements, including Reception Baseline Assessment and EYFS Profile where applicable.
- Identify children requiring additional support and work closely with the SENDCo, families and external agencies.
- Use assessment information to inform planning, interventions and provision.
- Celebrate children's achievements and communicate progress effectively with parents and carers.
Inclusion and SEND
- Ensure all children can access a broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum.
- Identify barriers to learning at the earliest opportunity.
- Adapt teaching, provision and the learning environment to meet individual needs.
- Support children with identified SEND and those undergoing assessment processes.
- Work in partnership with parents, the SENDCo and external professionals to implement effective support strategies.
- Promote equality, diversity and inclusion within all aspects of provision.
Safeguarding and Welfare
- Take responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of all children.
- Ensure that safeguarding procedures are followed in accordance with statutory guidance and school policy.
- Maintain a safe, secure and nurturing learning environment.
- Implement effective behaviour management strategies appropriate to young children.
- Support children in developing emotional regulation, independence and positive social interactions.
- Promote children's health, wellbeing and personal care needs where appropriate.
- Ensure compliance with all EYFS safeguarding and welfare requirements.
Partnership with Parents and Carers
- Develop positive and effective relationships with parents and carers.
- Recognise parents as children's first educators and work collaboratively with them.
- Share children’s achievements, progress and next steps through regular communication
- Support successful transitions into Nursery, Reception and Key Stage One.
- Provide guidance and support to families in ways that promote children’s learning and wellbeing.
Leadership of the Learning Environment
- Maintain an attractive, stimulating and well‑organised learning environment.
- Ensure resources are accessible, purposeful and promote independent learning.
- Lead the development of high-quality indoor and outdoor provision.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of learning environments and make improvements where necessary.
- Promote children's independence, confidence and decision‑making.
Professional Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with teaching assistants and other support staff to maximise children's learning and development.
- Participate fully in staff meetings, professional development and school improvement activities.
- Reflect on and continually improve professional practice.
- Maintain high standards of professional conduct at all times.
- Establish positive working relationships with colleagues, governors and external professionals.
- Keep up to date with developments in Early Years education and statutory requirements.
- Contribute positively to the wider life of the school community.
