Job summary

Port Regis is seeking a reliable Caretaker to secure the estate each evening and carry out basic caretaking duties under the direction of the Head of Grounds. The role requires self-motivation, the ability to work under pressure and to liaise with the Bursar and Grounds team.

The successful candidate will work a four-day rota (Mon-Fri 16:00-22:00; Sat-Sun 14:00-22:00), with an average of about 23 hours per week, and may be offered on-site accommodation depending on need.

Qualifications

• Ability to stay calm and act appropriately in emergencies.
• Confidence to approach unknown persons on site.
• Good communication with staff and emergency services.
• Ability to work independently and use initiative.
• Keep accurate incident logs and maintenance records.
• Physically able to perform site duties including lifting.
• Trustworthy, reliable and discreet.
• Experience in a school or boarding environment (desirable).
• Qualifications in caretaking or facilities management (desirable).

Responsibilities

• Secure all buildings and vehicles each evening; check exterior doors/windows.
• Log incidents with the Head of Grounds.
• Assist with maintenance tasks and call for required help.
• Deliver onsite parcels.
• Assist with weekly, monthly and annual checks.
• Provide minibus driving and weekly checks/cleaning.
• Maintain site cleanliness and general safety.
• Comply with procedures and risk assessments.
