Job summary

Bexhill College is seeking a reliable Senior Caretaker to maintain a safe, secure and welcoming campus for students, staff and visitors. You will oversee upkeep, security and presentation of the college site, supervising caretaking staff and coordinating routine maintenance.

You will open and close the College, manage day-to-day operations, support contractors, and assist with events such as parents' evenings and open evenings while upholding health and safety standards.

Job description

We are seeking a reliable, proactive, and experienced Senior Caretaker to play a key role in maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors.

This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with strong practical maintenance skills and experience of site management to take a leading role in the day-to-day operation of our campus.

As Senior Caretaker, you will be responsible for overseeing the upkeep, security, and presentation of the college site. Working closely with the Property Manager and Property Officer, you will supervise caretaking activities, coordinate maintenance works, and ensure that buildings and grounds are maintained to a high standard.

Responsibilities include opening and closing the College, securing the college premises as required, supervising caretaking staff and allocating daily tasks, undertaking routine inspections and minor repairs, monitoring building condition and reporting maintenance requirements. You will also support contractors working on site and ensuring compliance with site procedures.

The successful candidate will need to support the maintenance of high standards of health and safety across the campus. The role includes supporting college events which includes parents evenings and open evenings and may require you to respond to out-of-hours issues where required.

You will need to be proactive, reliable and approachable, as well as being flexible and adaptable working within this busy environment. No two days are the same. You will need to enjoy working both inside and outside as grounds work forms part of the role. You will need to be able to use your initiative and be a self-starter.

A willingness to train to drive the college minibus would be an advantage.
