Job summary

Highsted Grammar School invites applications for a permanent Caretaker to join the Site team in Sittingbourne. The role covers general repairs, maintenance, and keeping the site safe for pupils and staff.

You will be responsible for security, opening/closing, alarm responses, and occasional cleaning and porter duties. You will perform health & safety inspections, keep records, and bring a proactive, flexible approach.

Qualifications

• A practical, hands-on background in building upkeep or similar roles.
• Ability to perform repairs and routine maintenance to a safe standard.
• Experience with security procedures and working as a key holder is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Carry out general repairs and routine maintenance to keep the site safe for pupils, staff and visitors.
• Maintain school security, operate as a registered key holder, open/close the site and respond to alarm call-outs.
• Provide emergency cleaning and repairs as needed and a porter service for deliveries, moving furniture and replenishing supplies.

Permanent position. 27 days annual holiday plus bank holidays. Mon-Fri shift pattern with occasional weekend and extended day paid overtime.

We are seeking to appoint a Caretaker to join our Site team in undertaking general repairs and maintenance to ensure the site is safe for pupils, staff and visitors.

The successful candidate will maintain the security of the school, ensuring that the site is secured, and as a registered key holder will be asked to undertake site opening and/or closing and to attend alarm call-outs. You will also be asked to undertake emergency cleaning and repairs as required, and provide a porter service for deliveries as well as moving furniture and replenishing supplies.

You will be required to undertake Health & Safety inspections and keep accurate records as appropriate.

You will be a flexible and committed person, with a range of practical skills and previous experience of building maintenance and knowledge of basic plumbing and decorating repair. Basic computer skills are preferred but not essential.
