Job summary

Bennett & Game Recruitment Ltd in Harpenden is seeking a Hire Desk Controller to manage hire enquiries, coordinate equipment availability and support the day-to-day running of the hire desk. This is a hands-on, customer-facing role in a specialist equipment hire business.

You will liaise with customers, drivers and internal teams, prepare quotations and ensure on-time deliveries, with Monday–Friday hours and a salary of £30,000–£32,000 depending on experience.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a hire desk or equipment rental is advantageous.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple bookings.
• Confident using computer systems and handling admin tasks.
• Proactive approach to problem-solving and customer queries.

Responsibilities

• Manage incoming hire enquiries, bookings and customer requests.
• Prepare hire quotations, process orders and confirm equipment availability.
• Coordinate deliveries, collections and off-hires.
• Maintain accurate hire records and customer information.
• Liaise with customers to understand requirements and recommend equipment.
• Coordinate with drivers, transport, service engineers and depot staff.
• Monitor ongoing hires, extensions and returns.
• Handle customer queries and resolve hire-related issues.
• Support day-to-day administration and smooth operation of the hire desk.
• Build and maintain relationships with customers.
