Job summary

Abingdon and Witney College is seeking an Equine Technician to support the operation, maintenance and development of our Common Leys Farm campus in Witney. The role focuses on horse care, safety and practical land management to support teaching, learning, and commercial activities.

The position involves a range of duties across horse welfare, maintenance of buildings and infrastructure, and collaboration with farm teams. Part-time, 26 hours/week, with weekend work as part of the rota.

Qualifications

• Experience working practically with horses or within the equine industry.
• Strong practical skills and the ability to work safely with a wide range of horses and related tools and equipment.
• Good understanding of health and safety requirements in a practical working environment.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a high standard of horse care and welfare.
• Carry out routine maintenance and repairs to farm and equine buildings and estate infrastructure.
• Support upkeep and presentation of the equine unit to a high standard.
• Supervise duty students when carrying out equine duties on the yard.
• Assist with maintenance, servicing and safe operation of equine equipment and facilities.
• Undertake practical land management activities including basic repairs (e.g., fencing).
• Support delivery of equine practicals within the curriculum.
• Maintain safe working practices and compliance with health and safety requirements.
• Assist with stock checks and maintenance records.
• Work with teaching staff to support learning activities and commercial farm operations.
• Respond to day-to-day equine issues and help ensure smooth yard operation.
