Job summary

Windsor Forest Colleges Group is seeking a part-time Equine Yard Technician for the Berkshire College of Agriculture campus. The role combines direct horse care with instructional support in a busy equestrian centre.

You will work 16 hours per week (Fridays and Saturdays), maintain high welfare standards, supervise yard sessions, and assist students, including those in need, while preparing equipment for daily lessons and ensuring a safe learning environment.

Qualifications

  • Level 3 qualification in equine subject is essential.
  • Level 2 English and Maths are required.
  • Practical experience handling a range of horses desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain high standards of horse welfare and daily stable routines.
  • Exercise horses and oversee veterinary or farrier needs as required.
  • Support student learning by demonstrating techniques and supervising practical yard sessions.
  • Assist special needs groups and prepare equipment for daily lessons.
  • Manage yard resources, operate college vehicles/tractors, and maintain equipment.
  • Conduct risk assessments to ensure a safe, clean learning environment.

Job description

Windsor Forest Colleges group is looking for an Equine Yard Technician to join our Equestrian Centre at our Berkshire College of Agriculture campus on a part-time permanent basis.

Equine Yard Technician

This Equine Yard Technician role at BCA involves working 16 hours per week on Fridays and Saturdays only on an all-year round basis. This position is on Scale G of the Support Staff pay scale; offering a salary between G,019.68 and G,798.49 (G,483 up to G,284 FTE).

The role of an Equine Yard Technician combines direct horse care with practical instructional support for students. Key responsibilities include maintaining exceptional standards of horse welfare, overseeing daily stable routines, exercising horses, and identifying veterinary or farrier requirements. Alongside animal care, the post holder actively supports student learning by demonstrating core techniques, supervising practical yard sessions, assisting special needs groups, and preparing equipment for daily lessons across the Equestrian Centre.

In addition to routine care and teaching, the role involves managing yard resources, operating college vehicles and tractors, maintaining equipment, and executing risk assessments to ensure a safe, clean environment. Suitable candidates will hold a Level 3 qualification in an equine subject alongside Level 2 English and Maths, supported by practical experience handling a range of horses. Solid administrative skills, IT proficiency, flexibility, and a strong commitment to student safeguarding and inclusive teaching are essential for this position.
