Job summary

DN Colleges Group in Doncaster invites applications for an Engineering Workshop Lecturer to support apprentices in machining, mechanical fitting and maintenance. You will teach theory and run practical sessions in workshop and classroom settings, guiding learners to achieve qualifications and develop industry-ready skills.

Reporting to the Curriculum Lead for Engineering Apprenticeships, the role focuses on delivering Level 2/3 programmes, developing materials, assessing progress and building

Qualifications

  • Level 3 qualification in Maintenance, Fitting or Mechanical Manufacturing with GCSE English & Maths (Grade C/5+).
  • Industrial workshop experience in bench fitting, mechanical maintenance, assembly, turning and milling.
  • Understanding of apprenticeship delivery and employer-aligned programmes.
  • Ability to motivate apprentices with strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Commitment to equality of opportunity and high-quality learner achievement.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver theory and practical sessions for engineering apprentices in workshop and classroom environments.
  • Teach and assess subjects primarily at Levels 2 and 3 (machining, fitting, maintenance).

  • Support apprentices through their learning journey and assessments.

Engineering Workshop Lecturer DN Colleges Group Doncaster, UK

Are you an experienced engineering professional who is passionate about developing the next generation of skilled engineers? This is an exciting opportunity to join the Engineering Apprenticeships team, supporting apprentices as they build the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed for successful careers in manufacturing and maintenance.

Working closely with employers, colleagues and apprentices, you will deliver high-quality theoretical and practical training across machining, mechanical fitting and maintenance disciplines. You will guide learners throughout their apprenticeship journey, providing teaching, assessment and support to help them achieve their qualifications and become competent, industry-ready professionals.

This role offers the chance to make a genuine difference by combining your industry expertise with teaching and mentoring. You will contribute to learner success, curriculum development and strong employer partnerships while maintaining high standards of teaching, assessment and quality assurance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Deliver engaging theory and practical sessions for engineering apprentices in workshop and classroom environments.
  • Teach and assess subjects primarily at Levels 2 and 3, including machining, mechanical fitting and maintenance disciplines.
  • Plan, prepare and deliver learning programmes in line with college, employer, funding and awarding body requirements.
  • Support apprentices through their learning journey, providing guidance to help them successfully complete their apprenticeship programmes.
  • Conduct formative and summative assessments and contribute to internal verification activities.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with employers, promoting training opportunities and supporting workforce development needs.
  • Organise and maintain accurate learner records, attendance information and programme documentation.
  • Develop and update learning materials to reflect current industry standards and awarding body requirements.
  • Contribute to curriculum development, course evaluation, quality assurance processes and continuous improvement activities.
  • Participate in team meetings, standardisation activities and continuous professional development to maintain industry and teaching expertise.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
  • Level 3 qualification in Maintenance, Fitting or Mechanical Manufacturing, together with GCSE English and Mathematics at Grade C/5 or above (or equivalent).
  • Relevant industrial experience, including carrying out practical workshop tasks in bench fitting, mechanical maintenance, mechanical assembly, manual turning and milling.
  • Understanding of apprenticeship delivery and experience of working with programmes that meet employer needs.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire apprentices, with strong communication, interpersonal, organisational and administrative skills.
  • Commitment to equality of opportunity, professional development and maintaining high standards of quality and learner achievement.
DESIRABLE CRITERIA
  • Teaching or training qualification and teaching experience.
  • Experience of CNC milling and turning using HASS, Fanuc and Dynapath control systems.
  • Experience in welding and fabrication, hydraulics and pneumatics, or CAD/CAM.
EMPLOYMENT DETAILS
  • Contract Type: Permanent, Full Time
  • Hours: 35.5 hours per week
  • Core Working Hours: 8:30am to 5:00pm Monday to Thursday and 8:30am to 4:00pm Friday. Flexibility around working patterns may be agreed with your line manager to meet business needs.
  • Location: Doncaster
