PortSwigger Ltd in Knutsford is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a stream-aligned software team. You will shape roadmap, mentor engineers, and partner with Product Manager and Tech Lead to deliver high-quality software.

This role focuses on people leadership, delivery excellence, and a culture of autonomy. You’ll balance discovery and delivery, coach through questions, reduce hand-offs, and align work with customer outcomes in an office-first, in-person setting.

Qualifications

• Significant experience leading software engineering teams, including people leadership.
• Strong understanding of modern software delivery practices (CI/CD, testing, observability, deployability).
• Experience in stream- or product-aligned teams with end-to-end delivery ownership.
• Proven ability to partner with Product Managers to shape priorities and scope.
• Experience working with Tech Leads to align technical direction and outcomes.
• Demonstrated ability to coach, give feedback, and develop engineers.
• Strong stakeholder management and risk awareness across teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a stream-aligned engineering team with high performance and autonomy.
• Partner with Product Management to shape priorities and align engineering work to customer value.
• Collaborate with the Tech Lead to ensure technical direction and standards are met.
• Own delivery effectiveness, improving flow, predictability, deployability, and restoration readiness.
• Use delivery metrics (e.g., DORA) to drive improvements in frequency and lead time.
• Protect time for discovery, experimentation, and validation of assumptions.
• Reduce hand-offs and dependencies, and manage cross-team coordination.
• Ensure production software is well-run, with runbooks, SLIs, incidents review, and improvements.
• Coach engineers toward autonomy, provide feedback, and address performance issues early.
• Contribute to recruitment, interview quality, and hiring decisions.
• Communicate trade-offs clearly and keep stakeholders aligned with business outcomes.
