Job summary

CV Technical are seeking an Engineering Manager for the Bedford site to lead and develop the engineering and maintenance function on a 24/7 manufacturing operation. You will shape the engineering strategy, drive reliability improvements, manage budgets and capital projects, and develop a high-performing team through clear objectives and coaching.

Excellent knowledge of PPM, CMMS and safety compliance is essential, with Lean/Six Sigma experience desirable.

Qualifications

• Requires HND or Degree in Engineering and proven experience leading an engineering or maintenance team in manufacturing.
• Strong knowledge of PPM, CMMS and maintenance systems; track record in reliability improvements.
• Experience managing budgets and capital projects; familiar with Health & Safety compliance.

Engineering Manager

We're working with a well-established manufacturing business in Bedford who are looking to appoint an Engineering Manager to lead and develop their site engineering and maintenance function.

This is a senior, high autonomy role where you'll have the opportunity to shape the engineering strategy, develop the team and drive improvements across a busy 24/7 manufacturing site.

The role

You'll take overall responsibility for the engineering and maintenance function, working closely with Operations, Technical, HR and other departments to improve reliability, compliance and overall site performance.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading, coaching and developing the Engineering team
• Managing all planned, preventative and reactive maintenance across the site
• Developing the maintenance strategy to improve plant reliability and reduce downtime
• Driving a proactive culture around continuous improvement, RCA and asset reliability
• Managing engineering KPI's including reactive vs proactive maintenance, downtime, top losses and labour utilisation
• Ensuring all maintenance systems, processes and statutory requirements are maintained
• Managing engineering stores and ensuring critical spares are available
• Managing departmental budgets and expenditure
• Supporting and delivering capital projects and continuous improvement initiatives
• Working closely with other site functions to ensure engineering supports operational performance
• Maintaining a strong Health & Safety and compliance culture
• Developing the team through clear objectives, regular feedback and visible leadership

About you

We're looking for an experienced Engineering Manager, Maintenance Manager, Head of Engineering or Chief Engineer with a strong background within manufacturing.

You'll ideally have:

• HND or Degree in Engineering
• Proven experience leading an engineering or maintenance team within manufacturing
• Strong knowledge of PPM, CMMS and maintenance systems
• Experience driving reliability and continuous improvement
• Lean or Six Sigma experience
• Experience managing budgets and capital projects
• Strong knowledge of Health & Safety and statutory compliance
• IOSH or NEBOSH would be advantageous
• Knowledge of GMP, DSEAR and NH3 would be beneficial
• Refrigeration experience or knowledge would be advantageous
• Experience within food manufacturing would be preferredMost importantly, you'll be a visible and people focused leader who can build trust, develop engineers and create a culture of ownership and continuous improvement.

The role is based at the Bedford manufacturing site, working Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week between 8am and 5pm. Due to the 24/7 nature of the operation, some flexibility will be required for occasional evening, night or weekend attendance.
