Job summary

Kier Group's Structures & Geotechnical team in Birmingham is seeking a Bridge Engineer to deliver highways structures design and assessment. You will produce technical designs, calculations, drawings and reports, supporting Lead Engineers on major schemes and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

Ideal candidates will hold a Civil Engineering degree (or equivalent) and be working towards IEng/CEng, with experience in highway structures and knowledge of DMRB/UK standards.

• Working towards IEng or CEng status.
• Experience or knowledge of highways structures design/maintenance.
• Familiar with DMRB, MCHW and UK standards.
• Strong teamwork, communication and time management skills.

Job description

We're looking for an Bridge Engineer to join our Structures & Geotechnical team based in Birmingham.

Location: Birmingham

Hours: 37.5 hours per week – some flexibility on hours available if desired, just let us know when you speak to us.

Salary: Starting form £38,000 per annum

Sector: Structures and Geotechnical – Highways Structures

As a Bridge Engineer within our Structures Team at Kier Design, you'll play a key role in delivering a wide range of high-profile infrastructure projects. These include National Highways Major Projects, National Highways SDF, TfL frameworks, Northamptonshire schemes, and South Wales Trunk Road Agency (SWTRA) contracts, among others.

You will be responsible for the production of technical designs and documentation, supporting the Lead Engineer to successfully deliver highways structures maintenance and new-build schemes—ensuring projects meet client requirements, on time and within budget.

Are you…

• Degree qualified in Civil Engineering (or HNC/HND equivalent)?
• Working towards or achieved IEng / CEng (MICE, MIStructE or equivalent)?
• Experienced in the inspection, assessment or design of highways structures?
• Familiar with Eurocodes and UK standards (DMRB, MCHW)?
• A proactive team player with strong technical and analytical skills?

What are we looking for?

This role of Bridge Engineer is great for you if you:

• Have a degree, HNC or HND in Civil Engineering
• Are working towards IEng or CEng status
• Have experience or knowledge of structures design (maintenance or new build)
• Have understanding of DMRB, MCHW and CDM regulations
• Have experience within an engineering consultancy environment
• Have strong teamwork, communication and time management skills
