A leading engineering consultancy is looking for a Senior Engineer to join their Structural and Geotechnical Engineering Team. This role focuses on delivering technical excellence on various highway projects across the UK. The ideal candidate will have a relevant engineering degree, experience in inspection and design of highway structures, and familiarity with key design software. Senior Engineer – Structures & Geo

We're looking for a Senior Engineer to join our Structural and Geotechnical Engineering Team based in London, Birmingham, or Manchester. Kier Design is a top‑25 engineering consultancy delivering a wide range of services across all sectors of the built environment. We have preferential access to Kier’s £11bn+ project pipeline, including projects such as High Speed 2 and Hinkley Point C, as well as frameworks with national and local government.

Location

London, Birmingham, or Manchester – remote working available, with occasional travel to the office required.

Hours

37.5 hours per week – some flexibility available if desired.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Engineer, you’ll be working within the Structures Team, supporting them in delivering technical excellence across contracts such as National Highways Major Projects, National Highways SDF, TfL, Northamptonshire, South Wales Trunk Road Agency Contract (SWTRA), and many more.

Your day‑to‑day will include:

  • Leading and managing the delivery of technical outputs, acting as Lead Designer on team projects
  • Contributing to technical excellence and innovation across inspection, assessment, and design of highway structures
  • Scheme investigation, site and structure inspections, data collection and analysis, feasibility studies, preliminary and detailed design
  • Preparing tender documents, works / construction inspection and supervision, progressing scheme design, development and construction
  • Communicating, delivering and implementing improvements to SHEQ within all aspects of projects
Requirements

This role is great for you if:

  • You have a degree in a relevant engineering discipline and are approaching or have achieved Chartered / Incorporated status with a professional institution
  • You bring demonstrable experience in inspection, assessment, and design of highway structures to UK standards
  • You’re comfortable with relevant design software and familiar with Eurocodes / knowledge and experience of the main management systems & processes used within a similar business
