Job summary

Mayborn in Newcastle upon Tyne is seeking an Engagement & Internal Communications Executive on a fixed term 6-month contract. You will own the monthly employee round-up, manage the intranet and Viva Engage, and coordinate events and Town Hall communications to support a connected, informed workforce.

You will work with senior leaders, HR and global stakeholders to craft engaging content, drive participation, and strengthen company culture through strategic communications and EVP initiatives.

Engagement & Internal Communications Executive

Location: Newcastle Upon Tyne

Contract: Fixed Term Contract - 6 Months

Our Engagement & Internal Communications Executive plays a central role in delivering consistent, engaging and effective communication across the organisation. This role supports employee engagement, strengthens company culture, coordinates key events, and ensures employees remain informed, connected and recognised.

This is an opportunity for an organised, creative and proactive Communications Professional to take ownership of key internal communication channels and employee engagement activities, while working closely with senior leaders, site teams, HR and global stakeholders.

You will use strong communication, planning and stakeholder management skills to develop engaging content, coordinate internal communications and events, and ensure employees receive timely, relevant and compelling information. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to projects connected to Recognition and Employee Value Proposition (EVP), supporting wider engagement and culture initiatives.

What you will be doing:
1. Employee Communications
  • Own the monthly employee round-up, including gathering updates from across the organisation, creating and editing content, designing the newsletter and managing distribution.

  • Create and schedule LinkedIn content to support employer brand visibility and external communications.

  • Manage ad hoc site and global communications, ensuring messaging is timely, accurate and aligned with business priorities.

  • Coordinate Town Hall communications, including content, messaging and recognition activities.

  • Manage and maintain the company intranet, ensuring content remains accurate, relevant, engaging and easy for employees to access.

  • Manage the Viva Engage platform, including content planning, moderation and governance. Driving adoption and engagement through relevant content.

  • Encourage employee participation and two-way communication through relevant content and engagement activity.

2. Events & Employee Engagement
  • Plan and deliver a range of internal employee events and engagement activities throughout the year.

  • Coordinate key annual events and manage event communications, ensuring employees are informed and engaged before, during and after events.

  • Develop and execute employee engagement initiatives that support company culture and employee connection and identify opportunities to increase participation and engagement.

  • Plan and coordinate volunteering activities and programmes.

3. Stakeholder Management
  • Build strong and effective relationships with stakeholders across different functions and levels.

  • Coordinate multiple communication activities and stakeholders simultaneously, ensuring priorities are effectively managed.

  • Provide clear and proactive communication to stakeholders throughout the planning and delivery of key activities.

4. Recognition & EVP
  • Support projects and initiatives connected to employee Recognition and the Employee Value Proposition (EVP) helping to bring the employee proposition to life through engaging content and communications.

  • Identify opportunities to strengthen employee connection, recognition and understanding of the wider employee experience.

  • Support the delivery of projects and initiatives that reinforce company culture and organisational priorities.

5. Content & Channel Management
  • Create engaging, clear and consistent content for a range of internal and external communication channels.

  • Use Microsoft Office to create professional presentations, documents, communications and supporting materials.

  • Create and manage content areas within SharePoint, ensuring information is well organised, accessible and up to date.

  • Support the effective use of digital communication channels to improve employee awareness, engagement and participation.

  • Where required, use PageTiger to support the creation and delivery of engaging digital communications and content.

6. Communication Planning & Administration
  • Maintain communication and campaign plans, content calendars and timelines to ensure activity is coordinated and delivered effectively.

  • Monitor upcoming communication requirements and proactively identify content, stakeholder or timing requirements.

  • Ensure communications are delivered consistently and in line with agreed processes and organisational priorities.

What skills and experiences you’ll need to ace this job:
  • Experience in an internal communications, employee engagement, marketing, HR or related role preferable. Open to relevant degree.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with excellent attention to detail.

  • Experience managing multiple communication activities and projects to agreed deadlines.

  • Experience coordinating events, campaigns or employee engagement initiatives would be desirable.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including strong experience using PowerPoint, Word and Excel.

  • Familiarity with software including Microsoft SharePoint, PageTiger or Viva Engage would be advantageous.

  • Strong stakeholder management skills and confidence engaging with senior leaders, site teams and different functions.

  • Strong organisation and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
