Job summary

Octopus Energy is building a new business line delivering low-cost, reliable, clean energy and faster power for data centers and large industrials. You will own the project model, build pricing strategies and participate in final investment decisions.

This is a quantitative role with direct exposure to large-scale power projects. You will model the economics of generation, BESS, and flexible load, and develop toolings and standard assumptions for our growing pipeline.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years in a numerate commercial role - infrastructure or renewables development, project finance, banking, energy trading or origination, strategy or energy consultancy.
• Financial modelling from first principles: DCF, IRR, scenarios and sensitivities.
• Advanced knowledge of GB/European power markets, and how network and connection costs land on a project.
• Advanced Excel and Python
• Able to take a messy, incomplete problem to a clear recommendation
• Quantitative degree - economics, engineering, finance, maths, physics - or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Own the project model for each opportunity - generation, BESS, flexible load, network cost; capex, opex, revenue stack, IRR, downside cases.
• Price the offer. Turn a customer's load profile and reliability requirement into a deliverable price and structure - tariff, PPA, tolling, availability-based.
• Value the flex. Model storage and flexible load across wholesale, Balancing Mechanism, ancillary services and Capacity Market.
• Develop the business case. Build internal and external presentations to support from indicative customer proposals to project final investment decisions.
• Track the portfolio and read the market. Monitor live projects against approved cases - spend, milestones, connection dates.
