Job summary

Octopus Energy Group is building a new business line delivering low-cost, reliable, clean energy for datacenters and large industrials. This quantitative role owns the project models, pricing strategies and supports final investment decisions.

You will price offers, model storage and flexible load across markets, develop the business case, and track portfolio performance while staying ahead of regulatory changes. The role offers a collaborative, fast-paced culture at Octopus.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years in a numerate commercial role - infra or renewables development, project finance, banking, energy trading or origination, strategy or energy consultancy.
• Financial modelling from first principles: DCF, IRR, scenarios and sensitivities.
• Advanced knowledge of GB/European power markets and how network and connection costs land on a project.
• Advanced Excel and Python.
• A quantitative degree in economics, engineering, finance, maths, physics, or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Own the project model for each opportunity - generation, BESS, flexible load, network cost; capex, opex, revenue stack, IRR, downside cases.
• Price the offer by turning a customer’s load profile into a deliverable price and structure (tariff, PPA, tolling, availability-based).
• Value the flex by modelling storage and flexible load across wholesale, Balancing Mechanism, ancillary services and Capacity Market.
• Develop the business case with presentations from indicative customer proposals to final investment decisions.
• Track the portfolio and read the market; monitor spend, milestones, connection dates, and identify regulatory changes; support term sheets and diligence.
