Job summary

Octopus Energy Trading, part of Octopus Energy Group, seeks a data scientist to build data pipelines and forecasting models for GB intraday power markets. You’ll combine internal and external data, apply classical and ML techniques, and forecast demand and renewable generation to inform trading decisions.

You’ll collaborate with Trading, Renewables and other teams, communicate methods clearly, and own end-to-end forecasting processes while driving towards Net Zero.

Qualifications

• Experience with Python is essential.
• Experience with Machine Learning is essential.
• Understanding of forecasting techniques and ability to build a baseline and iterate quickly.
• Ability to communicate approach, strengths and limitations.
• Able to understand commercial and industry concepts.

Responsibilities

• Exploring data needed to trade the GB intraday power market.
• Building, improving and maintaining models to forecast electricity demand and renewable generation (GB emphasis).
• Finding high-quality, novel data sources to base forecasts on.
• Developing forecasting framework and tools.
• Maintaining and automating forecasting processes with checks and alerts.
• Utilising forecasting models to enhance price forecasts.
• Collaborating with Trading, Renewables, Flexibility and other teams.
