Job summary

Northumbria Police is recruiting for an Emergency Contact Handler Apprenticeship – Part Time, starting March 2027. Training is Monday to Friday 8–4 for 10 weeks, with relocation to Cobalt in 2027. During training you’ll be based at Ponteland, then Ponteland or South Shields post-training before the move.

Role involves handling 999/101 calls, data entry, and assessing urgency with supervision. Successful candidates will undertake a Level 3 apprenticeship, with shift and enhanced allowance making

Qualifications

• No formal qualifications required, but excellent typing and listening skills are needed.
• Strong written communication and ability to input data accurately.

Responsibilities

• Gather information from callers and record key messages.
• Input data into police IT systems and query force databases.
• Assess urgency and vulnerability to provide high-quality service.
• Handle 999 and 101 calls and digital platform contacts.
