Job summary

Nicholas Associates are seeking a Maintenance Engineer - Trainee Controls Engineer near Leicester for dayshift, Monday to Friday with overtime. The role focuses on modifying PLC programs and progression into PLC Controls Engineer.

The ideal candidate will have electrical maintenance experience in manufacturing, familiarity with Allen Bradley or Siemens PLCs, and a desire to program from scratch; training will be provided.

Qualifications

• Electrical maintenance experience in manufacturing/production environments.
• Desire to modify and write PLC programs from scratch with training provided.
• Competent with Allen Bradley or Siemens PLCs and related controls.
• Commutable from Loughborough, Leicester, Melton Mowbray, Coalville and surrounding areas.

Responsibilities

• Working with the electrical maintenance team on PLC modifications and laptop programming.
• Program, troubleshoot, and optimise PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems.
• Diagnose and resolve electrical, instrumentation, and control faults.
• Support preventative, predictive and reactive maintenance.
• Maintain and improve process and material handling equipment.
• Deliver automation upgrades, system integrations and retrofit projects.
• Analyse performance data to improve reliability and minimise downtime.
• Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
• Support breakdown response and maintain technical documentation.

Maintenance Engineer - Trainee Controls Engineer - Monday to Friday days

Industry: Manufacturing

Location: near Rothley - Leicester

Pay: £52,500 + overtime available = earnings of £60,000 and upwards achievable

Hours: Monday to Thursday 8am to 4pm and Fridays 6am to 4pm

Overtime: x1.5 Mon-Sat and x2 on Sundays

Holidays: 25 days

Overview:

We now require a Maintenance Engineer to join the engineering team with a key focus around modifying and editing PLC's - this is a great opportunity for an Electrically biased maintenance engineer who is a desire to progress into a fully fledged PLC Controls Engineer role. To be successful in this role you will already have an understanding of editing and modifying programs with the desire to write programs from scratch - training given.

Key responsibilities of the Electrical Maintenance Engineer - Trainee controls engineer role:

• Working collaboratively with the electrical maintenance team you will be focused around modifications of PLC's, plugging in the laptop and modifying the programs.
• Program, troubleshoot, and optimise PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems.
• Diagnose and resolve electrical, instrumentation, and control faults.
• Support preventative, predictive, and reactive maintenance.
• Maintain and improve process and material handling equipment.
• Deliver automation upgrades, system integrations, and retrofit projects.
• Analyse performance data to improve reliability and minimise downtime.
• Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.

• Maintain technical documentation, drawings, and maintenance records.

The ideal candidate / Electrical Maintenance Engineer - Trainee controls engineer may have some of the following, however, please note these are only desirable and not essential as all applications will be looked at individually:

• Time served, apprentice trained or above in an Electrical discipline
• Previous experience working in a maintenance focused role within a manufacturing/production environment or similar.
• Competent working with Allen Bradley / Siemens controls systems with the desire to write programs from scratch.
• Commutable from: Loughborough, Leicester, Melton Mowbray, Coalville and surrounding areas.
